How to Dip & Decorate 4th of July Oreo Truffles

  1. Remove truffles from freezer and dip in melted chocolate, simply by melting the white chocolate in a microwave-safe bowl in 30 second intervals, stirring in between each interval, until your chocolate has melted.  If your mixture is a little too thick, add 1 or 2 teaspoons of canola oil, coconut oil or vegetable oil to thin the chocolate mixture.
  2. Sprinkle with red, white and blue sprinkles, gold stars or anything patriotic colored or add reserved Oreo crumbs before the chocolate sets up.
  3. Let chocolate set, refrigerate and enjoy!

Tips for 4th of July Oreo Truffles Recipe

  • Use regular, not Double Stuf Oreos. Double stuff has too much cream filling for these.
  • Use full fat cream cheese.  It tastes better than the low-fat, it is thinner and not as rich.
  • Be sure to chill the Oreo filling before you try to dip them, otherwise bits of Oreos will break off into the chocolate.
  • Use a fork or dipping tool to dip in chocolate, then use a spoon to pour more chocolate over them, then lift and let excess run off.

Storage & Freezer Options

  • For best results, store red white and blue truffles in an airtight container in the refrigerator up to 1 week or in the freezer up to 3 months. Thaw in the refrigerator overnight.  These truffles can sit at room temperature up to 2 hours when serving.

More Variations

  • You can use different flavor of Oreos, like the red velvet Oreos or the golden Oreos are excellent!  Get creative!
  • Use blue candy melts or red candy melts or a combination of all 3 red, white and blue colors with the white candy melts!  Kids will love these!
