I can remember when Amish Friendship Bread Starter Recipe was the rage for quite some time back in the day and everyone was doing it. It’s been a long time since I’ve went back in time to actually repeat the starter recipe and bake some goodies.

Amish friendship bread is often referred to as the chain letter of baking. A sourdough starter, together with a recipe for a cake-like bread, is passed on from one friend to another. You use a portion of the starter for your own friendship bread, and then pass it along to others.
Curious to start your own chain? Then read How to make the sourdough starter.
Amish Friendship Bread is sooo perfect for the holidays! It only requires only a handful of ingredients, which you most likely already have. Plus, you will only be prepping 10-15 minutes to get the bread baking in the oven.
This is one of those breads, you can share with friends and family and they will love it!
In this recipe, we substituted buttermilk for the starter easily!
