How to Make Microwave Easter Rice Krispies
The trick to making the gooiest and quickest Rice Krispie treats is making them in the microwave! Have you tried it? It’s SO simple! However, you have to make sure you have a very large microwaveable bowl, because if you’ve every tried melting marshmallows in the microwave, you know how they totally puff up! 😉
Of course, you can stick to the stove-top method by just melting the butter, then add in the marshmallows, then the Rice Krispies, followed by the Cadbury eggs.
I’ve added how to do both methods (microwave and stove-top) in the recipe card, so you can choose whatever works out best for you.
For the Microwave Method
- Line an 8×8, 9×9 or 9×13 dish with parchment paper or foil and lightly spray with non-cooking spray or lightly coat with butter. (Use an 8×8-9×9 pan for thicker squares, 9×13 pan for thinner squares)
- Place marshmallows and butter in a large 8 cup measuring bowl.
- Once melted add Rice Krispies cereal and mix until well blended.
- Add Mini Eggs and mix again.
- Add Rice Krispies cereal mixture into the prepared pan. Spread butter or spray nonstick spray on your hands or the bottom of a measuring cup and gently press the mixture down. You can also use a sheet of wax paper.
- Allow to set for 30 minutes before cutting into squares.
For the Stove-top Method:
- Line an 8×8, 9×9 or 9×13 dish with parchment paper or foil and lightly spray with non-cooking spray or lightly coat with butter.
- Melt the butter and marshmallows in a large saucepan over low heat until they are melted and creamy.
- Stir in the rice cereal until everything is completely coated.
- Mix in the Cadbury Eggs.
- Add Rice Krispies cereal mixture into the prepared pan. Spread butter or spray nonstick spray on your hands or the bottom of a measuring cup and gently press the mixture down. You can also use a sheet of wax paper.
- Let the Rice Krispies treats cool at least 30 minutes before cutting into squares.
Tips for the Easter Rice Krispies
- Make sure you use fresh marshmallows, because if they are not fresh, they do not melt as well.
- Use an 8×8-9×9 pan for thicker squares, 9×13 pan for thinner squares.
- Don’t overload your treats with extra Rice Krispies! Less, is better than more to get that soft and chewy texture.
- Pressing the cereal down too hard will make the treats too stiff and hard to eat.
- If you add EXTRA marshmallows it adds pockets of soft gooey marshmallows in your treats! YUM!
- Let the treats cool down before cutting them. I like to spray my knife with non-stick cooking spray and lightly wipe it off and then cut into my bars.
- Treats will last 2-3 days if kept in a tightly sealed container, if you’re that lucky! 😉
- For longer storage for these cadbury egg krispy treats, you can freeze these treats in an air-tight, freezer-safe container or heavy-duty freezer bag for up to 2 months.
