- Using a cookie scoop or a spoon, scoop some dough into your hands and roll one-inch balls and place balls on cookie sheet.
- Place the truffle balls in the freezer until well chilled, at least 15 minutes to an hour.
- Melt the chocolate melts in microwave in 30-second intervals until melted and smooth. Stir in between each interval.
- Remove Oreo cookie truffles from freezer and dip in melted chocolate.
- One at a time, dip the balls into the chocolate and gently remove using a fork. Shake off the excess chocolate and place back onto the tray.
- Top with crushed candy canes or sprinkles.
- Transfer truffles to refrigerator for 1 hour to set.
Tips & Variations for Oreo Truffle Recipe
- Use regular, not Double Stuf Oreos. Double stuff has too much cream filling for these.
- Use full fat cream cheese. It tastes better than the low-fat, it is thinner and not as rich.
- Be sure to chill the Oreo truffles before you try to dip them, otherwise bits of Oreos will break off into the chocolate.
- Use a fork or dipping tool to dip in chocolate, then use a spoon to pour more chocolate over them, then lift and let excess run off.
- Variation: You can use different flavor of Oreos, like the red velvet Oreos or the golden Oreos are excellent!
- Add 1/3 cup of crushed candy canes to your Oreo truffle mixture to add extra crunch to your truffles! ‘Tis the season!
- Leave out the peppermint extract and just add crushed candy canes or some fun Christmas sprinkles to the tops of the truffles for some peppermint flavor that’s not overwhelming for the not-so-much peppermint lovers.
- Use peppermint extract, not mint extract for the best peppermint flavor!
Storage & Freezer Options
For best results, store in an air tight container in the refrigerator up to 1 week or in the freezer up to 3 months. Thaw in the refrigerator overnight. They can sit at room temperature up to 2 hours when serving.
