- In a large bowl, using mixer, mix together the boxed cake mix, instant pudding, oil, milk, orange zest and eggs for 3 minutes on medium speed.
- Pour cake batter mixture evenly into prepared muffin liners and then lightly tap on counter to pop any air bubbles in the batter.
- Bake cupcakes 16-19 minutes.
- Remove cupcakes from muffin tin pans after they’ve cooled down and place cupcakes on a cooling rack.
- Prepare the frosting by stirring it to get it smooth and creamy, and if it’s too firm, place it in the microwave for 10 seconds to it’s easier to pipe onto the cupcakes. - Once the cupcakes are cooled, place 1/2 of the prepared frosting into a pastry bag or ziplock bag with a hole about 1/2 inch or so. Pipe a frosting circle around the edge of each of the cupcakes.
- Place each cupcake with the frosting into the sprinkles and shimmy it around to get sprinkles to cover the frosting. Once you’ve done this to all the cupcakes, place the remaining frosting into a pastry bag with a large star tip.
- In the center of each of the cupcakes, apply pressure to make a swirl on top. Finish up the cupcake swirls, and that’s it!
How to Store Cupcakes For Your Halloween Party
One of the most important aspects of serving cupcakes is learning how to store them properly. After all, no one wants to eat a stale or mushy cupcake! But don’t worry, there are a few easy tricks to ensure your cupcakes stay fresh and ready to be devoured. The key is understanding the different storage methods based on factors such as frosting, duration and location.
- Room Temperature – Unfrosted cupcakes can be left at room temperature for up to two days. Frosted cupcakes can be left at room temperature for 3–4 days if they are in an airtight container. If they have dairy in the frosting, you definitely should refrigerate them.
- Refrigerator – If your cupcakes are frosted, storing them in the cool place or the refrigerator is a must. The cool temperature will prevent the frosting from melting and losing its shape, while also keeping the cupcake moist. Make sure to cover the cupcakes with plastic wrap or keep them in an airtight container to avoid any odors from seeping in.
- Freezer – Cupcakes can be frozen for up to three months to keep them fresh for longer.
- Transportation – For frosted cupcakes, arrange them in a large, shallow, resealable plastic container and keep the container horizontal while traveling.
- Party ready – Keep the cupcakes in a large plastic cupcake box to keep them fresh throughout the day.
Cupcake Tips
- What I liked about purchasing the frosting from Global Sugar Art, is that I didn’t have to get all messy in the process. It’s already super black and it was easy to pipe the frosting with. Just make sure you stir it up well and pop it in the microwave if it’s too thick for 5-10 seconds. Plus, no dirty dishes and no hand mixer used. Yesssssss! Sometimes we need a break!
More Variations
- Don’t like orange flavored cupcakes? Go for chocolate cupcakes! Who can resist? Or maybe some pumpkin cupcakes or red velvet!
- Add some fun candies or sweets on top if you’re looking for some more decorative touches! Maybe some candy eyeballs or some creepy spiders on top for some cute spider cupcakes or little chocolate ghosts popping out of your ghost cupcakes.!
- We’ve told you about our frosting choice, but maybe you would like a cream cheese frosting? Color it with some gel food coloring!
In conclusion, with Halloween just around the corner, there’s no better time to add some spooky fun to your baking with easy decorated Halloween cupcakes. The devilish black frosting and colorful Halloween sprinkles are the perfect combination to create a festive treat that will both delight and impress your friends and family.
