We made 2 different Easy Halloween Cereal Treats out of Cheerios, peanut butter, marshmallow, white chocolate and some simple decorating accessories to make them complete!
Plus, we broke it down for quick and easy instructions how to make your little monsters some ghoulishly wonderful breakfast cereal treats!
First of all, I adapted this recipe from my Halloween Rice Krispie Treats, but switched out the Rice Krispies for the Cheerios!
Easy! It’s just your basic Rice Krispies with some peanut butter added in and shaped into some bumpy cluster balls.
Cereal Treat Tips Before You Start
- Start off with fresh and crispy cereal that isn’t stale. Any breakfast cereal will work, but we chose Cheerios!
- Mini marshmallows melt best, but if you don’t have mini and only large marshmallows, whichever you use, don’t try to rush melting the butter and then the marshmallows. I find that my marshmallow doesn’t scorch the pan and it just has a better texture overall.
- Once you make the cereal mixture, use a spoon or scoop to get about a couple of tablespoons full of the cereal for each of the clusters and then roughly shape them it into balls to make the ghosts/monsters.
- Work fast to make your clusters before the mixture starts firming up as the mixture is cooling down.

How to Make Our Halloween Cereal Treats
Peanut Butter Party Treats
- In a 4 quart sauce pan, melt butter on low heat, slowly as to not burn. Once butter has melted, keep heat on low and add mini marshmallows. Once marshmallows begin to soften and melt, add peanut butter. Constantly, stir the mixture so the peanut butter does not burn and the marshmallows can evenly melt (won’t take too long, about 5 minutes or so). Once, mixture is combined and melted, turn off heat and remove pan from stove.
- Add cereal to sauce pan and stir until evenly coated with mixture until well combined. Use a spoon or scoop to get about a couple of tablespoons full of the cereal for each of the clusters and then roughly shape them it into balls to make the ghosts/monsters. Work fast to make your clusters before the mixture starts firming up as the mixture is cooling down. (Lightly spray spoon or scoop with non-stick cooking spray if cereal mixture is too sticky.)
- Place balls on parchment lined baking sheet and let the Rice Krispies air dry for about 30 minutes and/or overnight in a zip-lock bag before dipping into chocolate.
White Chocolate Coating
- Melt chocolate for 2 minutes, stirring every 30 seconds until smooth and creamy.
- Dip the top half of each ball one at a time into the chocolate and place on parchment paper lined baking sheet with the cereal side on the bottom and the chocolate on top.
- Add eyeballs for each of the ghosts after you dip them before the chocolate sets.
- Add sprinkles and eye ball candies to the monsters before the chocolate sets. You can do this easily by holding the bottom of the cereal treat and sprinkling all the sides and top of the chocolate for the monsters. Make sure you put a bowl underneath for the sprinkles to fall into, so they aren’t everywhere in the kitchen. 🙂
- Let chocolate set. Sooo yummy and addicting!!
