Why Desserts Are Important to Keto

The whole point of keto dieting is to go sugar-free and rely on fats and proteins for nutrition. So why would you need desserts when on keto?

  • Keto is meant to be a sustainable lifestyle choice to keep you healthy and eating a balanced meal. That includes desserts!
  • Keto and other sustainable diets are not about demonizing desserts. Instead, they are all about enjoying your foods and finding sustainable ways of preparing and eating desserts to keep up with your goals.
  • Choosing between a chocolate cake and a keto chocolate cake is better than choosing between cake and nothing. It will help you keep a positive mindset, and your diet will be sustainable and enjoyable instead of upright torture.
  • This Keto chocolate cake is different in that it has no sugar, grains, grain-based flour, or whole sweeteners. And how are they still delicious? They use powdered sweeteners to improve the flavor. Some bakers use a combination of sweeteners to improve the taste significantly.

About Lakanto and Why I Love Using It!

To find a good sugar-free, healthy sugar for baking and no baking, I’ve found it’s harder to find desserts that actually taste good when you make them healthier, especially when you are making desserts sugar-free and low-carb. But I found something that works for us and it’s amazing!  Lakanto!

  • I love using Lakanto and lucky for me, they noticed my instagram and sent me a whole bunch of their awesome products!  Happiness!
  • This Easy Keto Cake recipe uses the Lakanto Classic White and the Lakanto Powdered Sugar. If you’re not familiar with Lakanto, it is an all natural monk fruit sweetener that is both a superfood and a sugar substitute that tastes like real sugar!  Thank you!
  • Lakanto has the perfect mix of monk fruit extract and erythritol with no fiber, no maltodextrin, and no artificial flavoring or sweeteners. The extract comes from Monk fruit, which is is a small, green gourd resembling a melon and it’s grown in Southeast Asia. The Buddhist monks were the first to use it in the 13th century, hence the name “Monk Fruit”.  LOL…makes sense.
  • Lakanto Monkfruit Sweetener measures as a healthy cup-for-cup (1:1) alternative to ordinary baking and cooking ingredients, which I dearly love. I used the Lakanto Golden Lakanto in this Apple Cinnamon Coffee Cake and these Cinnamon Apple Muffins. Lakanto even has chocolate chips, chocolate bars, maple syrup, all kinds of baking mixes and a lot more!
  • Use my Lakanto Discount Code: thebakingchocolatess15 to get 15% off when you check out, because wanna share the love and who doesn’t love a discount?
  • Whether you’re new to this type of lifestyle or been doing it for awhile and why not check out Lakanto?  Works with ketogenic, diabetic, candida, paleo, vegan, low-carb, low-sugar, non-GMO, and all-natural diets, btw!

  1. Hi Felicia,
You just need to whisk it together until well combined. Was your butter slightly cooled, because the only thing I can think of it was too hot for it to turn foamy. But even then, if you let the mixture cool down a bit and then give it a whisk it should be fine to proceed with the recipe. Hope this helps?

  2. When we whisk the sugar, eggs, melted butter etc. how long do we need to whisk it for? Isit suppose to turn foamy or what should we be expecting before adding in the dry ingredients?

  3. I substitute the same amount if butter with coconut oil and it was absolutely perfect.
I have high blood cholesterol, that’s why I always search for healthier alternatives. Next time, I will try it with a vegetable oil.

  4. Great recipe! I followed it exactly as written and it was fantastic. Perfect crumb and texture! I made a plain cheesecake frosting for it and topped it with sliced almonds. This cake was gone in 2 days. I may reduce the cocoa powder just a little next time. Otherwise, one of the best keto chocolate cake recipes I’ve tried.

  5. I would just leave the chocolate out all together if you don’t want chocolate flavor. Add some extra vanilla flavoring to kick it up a notch. 🙂 Hope you enjoy!

  6. I don’t see why not? Same temperature as in recipe for 15 to 20 minutes. Test the doneness of cupcakes by inserting a wooden toothpick into the center. Enjoy Jen!

  7. Just wondering could I use the Lakanto golden sugar instead of classic. I have also the powdered.

  8. You’re a baking goddess!! This cake is amazing!! It tastes like traditional chocolate cake. I’ve tried other low carb/keto cake recipes, they don’t even compare. Thank you for your amazing recipe.

  9. That’s great Kara! I’m so happy to hear it worked out for you with your substitutions and sharing with us. Thank you!

  10. The best keto chocolate cake recipe I have made! I substituted swerve granulated in the cake and swerve powdered in the icing and it tasted great. I also made this in cupcake form instead of the cake and it made one dozen cupcakes. Yum!

  11. I’ve been looking at a lot of keto recipes for chocolate cake, and also read many reviews of dryness etc.
But after reading reviews from your recipe, I didn’t see anything about dryness!

I made this at 1am and had just had a small slice right out the oven and without frosting and all I’m going to say is PERFECT!

  12. don’t starve beginners guide Here’s a quick video explaining what and what not to eat on a keto diet. Scroll down to see more in-depth information and a detailed list:You want to keep your carbohydrates limited, coming mostly from vegetables, nuts, and dairy. Don’t eat any refined carbohydrates such as wheat (bread, pasta, cereals), starch (potatoes, beans, legumes) or fruit. The small exceptions to this are avocado, star fruit, and berries which can be consumed in moderation. Try to remember that keto is high in fat, moderate in protein, and very low in carbs. Your nutrient intake should be something around 70% fats, 25% protein, and 5% carbohydrate.

  13. Sherry, I’m so happy to hear you enjoyed them!! Thank you so much for your comment!
    Chocolate Syrup:
    1 cup whipping cream
1/3 cup powdered sugar, I use Lakanto
2 1/2 ounces unsweetened chocolate finely chopped (or a little over 1/3 cup)
1/2 tsp vanilla extract or maple syrup
In a medium saucepan over medium heat, whisk together whipping cream and powdered sugar. Bring to a simmer and remove from heat.
Add chopped chocolate and let sit 5 minutes while chocolate melts. Add vanilla extract or maple syrup and whisk until smooth. Can also do this in the microwave.

  14. I made these into cupcakes and they were delicious! I served them with So Delicious topping. I need a chocolate syrup recipe though. Thank you!

  20. Hey Ann! Room temperature 1-3 days completely sealed. You can store it in the fridge for up to 5 days sealed but it’s best if you microwave it or let it come to room temperature before serving. We love microwaving it 10-20 seconds and it tastes really yummy that way. I really hope you enjoy!
