Instructions How to Heat-Treat Your All-Purpose Flour 

Heat-treating the flour ensures that the bad bacteria are killed, so that the flour can be used in no-bake desserts.

  1. First start by treating your flour. Spread the flour on a large plate or baking dish to fit in your microwave.
  2. Microwave for about 1 minute, adding additional 15 second increments as needed, until the flour reaches a temperature of 160 F.  OR, heat treat the flour by spreading it out on a baking sheet and baking it at 350 degrees Fahrenheit for 5 minutes.  Set aside, and let cool down.

  1. Using an electric mixer, in a large mixing bowl cream butter and sugars in a bowl, until smooth.
  2. Add milk, salt and vanilla and mix until well combined.
  3. Add heat-treated flour until mixed well.
  4. Cover tightly with plastic wrap or lid until ready to use. Best if NOT refrigerated. You can store leftovers in the refrigerator as well.

There is a small risk you can still get sick from eating raw flour.  You can choose to heat the flour in the microwave to eliminate some of the risk of bacteria but still consume this dough at your own risk by pouring flour into a microwave safe bowl and heat on high for 1 and half minutes, then continue with the rest of the ingredients and instructions.
