My little devilish Chocoholics! Come out, come out, where ever you are! This Halloween Black Magic Candy Cake is definitely gonna cast a spell on you, cuz it’s sooo bomb! How cute would this be for Halloween festivities?
Hell yeah, just like these 20 Spooktacular Halloween Desserts, Halloween Reese’s Cookie Bars, these Frankenstein & Bride Brownies and these Blinged Out Chocolate Caramel Apples!
This fun candy bling loaded cake will have your little goblins and witches a-drooling. Pssst….That goes for the big goblins and witches too.
I was inspired to make a scratch ‘black magic’ cake when I posted Reese’s Peanut Butter Devil’s Food Chocolate Poke Cake, because I used a Devil’s Food Cake Mix in that recipe.
So I wanted to have a real home-made rich, ultra-moist, ultra-dark chocolate cake that I could use in that cake as well, because honestly, this candy bar cake recipe is amazing! It does not disappoint.
Confessions! Moreover, not only can you make this for all your Halloween parties and gatherings, you can also make it afterwards with all that left over candy you’re gonna get from trick or treating. Unless you’re like me and eat it all, this cake in one fatal swoop.
(Yes, I do that, no one gets harmed in the process, but it’s brutal to watch. That’s what happens when you have a chocolate freak in the house. We tend to get a little possessive.)
This chocolate fudge frosting is seriously so rich and creamy. I normally don’t like a lot of frosting, but I could wolf this frosting down by the spoonfuls. It’s double-dare delicious on the cake. They were meant to be together.
If you don’t want all the bling on top, make it a half n’ half candy bar cake. Half blinged up, half not, just like the picture. But seriously, who is going to turn down candy ever?

Hi Danielle! I’m sorry, I just got your message, so by now you’ve probably figured something out. But, I’ll answer your questions anyways. You should be able to get black food coloring online easily and it should ship fairly quickly. But another option you can do is buy black frosting already pre-made. As far as the dark chocolate, Hershey’s Special Dark Chocolate unsweetened cocoa is readily available at your local grocers or online. I hope your granddaughter had a wonderful birthday! It’s so fun watching your grandkids eyes light up when grandma makes them something special! Hoping she had a wonderful birthday!
Oh my goodness, Lisa from Simple Joy shared your Halloween recipes today. My grand-daughter wants a black cat cake for her bd, Nov 27. I was wondering how to make black frosting, I don’t know if we have the coco you mentioned to make your frosting but will try to find it. I have the food coloring for the eyes, nose and the cat’s neck collar but black coloring I couldn’t find. I will try to find the coco chocolate and make it with this. Wish me luck. Your recipe’s look amazing! P.S. in case I can’t find the dark coco, would you have another solution?
Thank you 🙂
Joanne, I keep eating a couple bites at a time. Otherwise, I would eat that whole thing. 😉
This cake would leave me a sugar coma for days! Lol!
