How to Make Halloween ‘Party’ Puppy Chow Mix
- Pour Chex cereal in a large bowl and set aside.
- In a microwave-safe bowl, melt chocolate chips, peanut butter and butter together on high for one minute.
- Stir and return to microwave, microwaving in 30 second increments until melted together and smooth. Stir in vanilla.
- Pour chocolate mixture over the cereal and gently stir to coat. (I used a couple of plastic baggies on my hands to toss the cereal in the mixture so I didn’t crush it.)
- Pour cereal in a large zip lock bag, add in powdered sugar in, seal and shake until evenly coated.
- Spread chex cereal mixture out onto a wax paper or parchment lined baking sheet and let cool completely.
Adding in Your Favorite Puppy Chow Add-Ins
- In a large bowl combine candy corn mixture, M&Ms or Reese’s Pieces, mini Reese’s peanut butter cups, pretzels, peanuts and mini marshmallows and add the cereal mixture in and toss together carefully .
- Store Halloween party chex mix in an airtight container for up to 2 weeks, if it lasts!!
Halloween Party Chex Mix Tips
- When you make puppy chow, muddy buddies or whatever you call them, make sure you coat them entirely with the melted chocolate and peanut butter mixture for the first step.
- We used equal parts of each to get the creamy, chocolate coating on all the nooks and crannies of the Chex cereal.
- If you add too much cereal, then the powdered sugar won’t adhere to the chocolate-peanut butter mixture. Melt some more chocolate and peanut butter if happens to be the case.
- The other thing you want to do is, let them slightly cool and then coat them powdered sugar. If you add the powdered sugar to coat the Chex mix while it’s warm, it will soak up the powdered sugar. Then you’ll have to add more, which is fine, but you’re adding extra sugar.
- When mixing the chex mixture and the powdered sugar together, you can use use ziplock bags and shake the mixture together or find a large bag or large sealed container to gently toss everything around in.
