Healthy snacking is always welcome around our house and these healthy cookie dough balls includes ingredients that you already have in your pantry.

For these snacking treats, all you need is oats, peanut butter or any natural nut butter, maple syrup or honey, butter or coconut oil and chocolate chips.  Add some vanilla for an extra boost. As you can see, many of the ingredients are inter-changeable as needed with ingredients you have on hand.

About Oat Flour

Oat flour is one of my favorite ingredients to use!  You can also buy it gluten-free, especially if you have allergies.  And if that is the case, switch out the peanut butter for Sunbutter

For the oats, I used Thrive Organic Gluten-Free Rolled Oats.  They are chewy, filling, and hearty and are safe for those with allergies or sensitivities to gluten. They’re also free of preservatives and artificial ingredients.  But you can also use any type of oats in these.  Oats also give a subtle hint of nuttiness when used in recipes.

How to Make Oat Flour

Just add oats to a food processor and blend until coarse.  Then, keep pulsing until the oats become a fine flour, with little to no flakes of oats remaining, depending on texture you wish for your recipes.

Use as needed in oat flour recipes and measure but it’s nice to know when grinding oats, there is an almost 1:1 ratio for rolled oats to ground oats, (example, if the recipe calls for a 1/2 cup oat flour, simply measure just over a 1/2 cup of rolled oats).
