While fans might add their own steps to the process, twisting the cookie halves apart, trying the layer of cream and then dunking the Oreo into some milk is what the brand swears by.
Any way you eat them, it’s all good! That’s why we couldn’t resist adding Oreos to cupcakes and frosting to give them a fun cookies and cream makeover! Talk about YUM!
Ingredients You Need for Oreo Cupcakes Recipe
Chocolate Cupcakes (Can also use my homemade Chocolate Cake Recipe)
- 1 box chocolate cake mix + ingredients (to make these a little healthier, sugar-free, gluten-free mixes can also be used)
- 36 Oreos, chopped
Easiest Oreo Frosting
- 4 16 oz. tubs Vanilla Frosting (Might be able to get away with 2 or 3 tubs, it just depends how much frosting you want, can also use sugar-free for healthier.)
- 10-20 Oreo Cookies crushed into crumbs (Add more or less as you wish)
For Homemade Oreo Frosting
- 10-15 Oreo Cookies
- 1 cup salted butter, room temperature
- 3 cups powdered sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
- 2 Tablespoons heavy cream
Toppings
- Drizzles Chocolate Sauce (I used Hershey’s, can also use hot fudge or chocolate ganache)
- 12 Oreos cut in half (24 cookie halves or whole cookies, can also use mini Oreos)
- Optional – Add some Sprinkles!!
How to Make Oreo Cupcakes the ULTIMATE Way!
Oreo Cupcakes
- Preheat oven and make cupcake batter and add chopped Oreo cookies. Bake according to cake mix directions. Let cupcakes cool.
How to Make Easy Shortcut Oreo Frosting
- Using a mixer, mix together the vanilla frosting and Oreo crumbs and place in pastry bag with large star tip for fancy swirl.
How to Make Homemade Oreo Frosting
- Crush Oreos into crumbs, if piping onto cupcakes, make sure the cookie chunks/crumbs aren’t too big or they won’t go through the star tip and plug it.
- Mix butter together with powdered sugar ½ cup at a time, until all blended, then add in vanilla and cream and mix together until creamy.
- Add crushed Oreo’s and blend well.
- If mixture is too thick, add additional teaspoon of heavy cream one at a time until desired thickness is achieved.
- Place in pastry bag with large star tip for fancy swirl.
Toppings
- Drizzle some chocolate sauce on top and place an Oreo cookie half on top of each cupcake. Add sprinkles if desired.
- Store covered at room temperature or refrigerated until ready to serve.
